Report sought on high-tension wires over schools, dilapidated buildings and shortage of desks and benches
Gonda: District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan has directed strict action against officials and employees found negligent in disposing of public grievances and submitting incorrect reports during a review meeting of the Basic Education Department.

The meeting of the District Monitoring Committee was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the DM’s chairpersonship. Officials reviewed key issues concerning basic education in the district, along with the status of complaints received through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal. Niranjan stressed transparency, accountability and timely action in all matters concerning public welfare.
During the meeting, the DM directed the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) to prepare a detailed report on primary and upper primary schools in Gonda where high-tension electricity wires pass overhead. The report must specify how many schools have had the wires removed by the Electricity Department and how many still require corrective action. She called for details of pending work to ensure student safety.
The DM also sought a comprehensive list of dilapidated school buildings in the district, along with details of action taken for their demolition. In addition, she asked officials to identify schools where seating arrangements, including desks and benches, have not yet been provided for students.
The District Panchayat Raj Officer was instructed to prepare the necessary documentation to ensure that desks and benches are arranged in the identified schools through the respective gram panchayats.
Reviewing IGRS complaints, Niranjan expressed displeasure over lapses in the Basic Education Department and directed that a show-cause notice be issued to District Basic Education Officer Amit Kumar Singh.

In another case involving an allegedly incorrect report submitted in response to an IGRS complaint, the DM ordered that the salary of Satish Chandra Tiwari, Assistant Development Officer (Panchayat), Wazirganj, be withheld. She also directed departmental action against him and his attachment to the district headquarters.
The DM further directed the suspension of Devendra Pandey, secretary of Teliyani Kanungo gram panchayat, for allegedly submitting an incorrect report in an IGRS complaint.
In addition, she ordered the withholding of one day’s salary of the District Panchayat Raj Officer, the District Programme Officer and the Child Development Project Officers of Pandri Kripal and Mankapur.
Niranjan instructed all officials to ensure that complaints are resolved within stipulated timelines and that reports submitted on the IGRS portal are accurate, evidence-based and reflect the actual status of the cases.
She made it clear that negligence, misleading reports and irresponsible handling of public grievances would invite accountability and departmental action in accordance with the rules.
